the toronto marlies in g-town
The Toronto Marlies came to town tonight and the little bro’s team got to play against them. It was so fun to watch, especially since he was in net for most of it! At one point one of their guys put on one of our guys’ jersey and started playing…then we put the entire roster on the ice. It was a lot of fun — for about 15 minutes of play.
Kevin even got one of the goalie’s (Racine) sticks and got to have it signed by the entire team. He really idolizes Pogue, and I think he was really excited to be on the opposite end of the ice. And the kid did pretty well. 3 glove saves and everything. I think they were going easy on them, but it really meant a lot to the boys. I know the little bro will keep that stick forever.
I realized that, being in g-town, he’s had great exposure to a lot of NHLers who came from here and are now giving back to the community. He’s trained with Johnny Bauer (and his daughter), Adam Bennett, Rick Heinz and several more. It really makes the sport seem more impressive when you realize that you can come and give back to the communities that got you to where you are and that it really, truly means something to the kids and parents there.

I forgot to mention last week that I finished reading Breakfast at Tiffany’s for our 1001 Books Club at work and I really enjoyed it. I’m not sure what I’ll have to discuss exactly… at least not just yet (any ideas out there?). Some group members have mentioned already that they found Holly Golightly to be an annoying character, but I didn’t find that at all. Sure, she was self involved for the most part, but I just didn’t find her grating. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure that I’ve completely formulated an opinion on her characther.
I found the narrative extremely engaging and, after not finishing the movie years ago, I actually enjoyed the book more than I thought I would. I will have to add Capote’s other works to my neverending list. I also want to watch the movie again — I think I’ll appreciate it much more now.
Thanks to our club, I am now at 51 books read from the list of 1001.

Following up on the very cool 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die and 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die comes…
1001 Paintings You Must See Before You Die!
I’m certain that this book will be just as gorgeous, if not more, than the first 2 books. Though, I suspect it would also take you to the far reaches of the earth — which is a cool idea. Running through galleries and checking each off your list. I suppose that would mean there’s much more effort involved than just reading 1001 books…I’m at number 50 now!

And so I wait.
I know I have a super short closing, but still, this week is going so slowly. I just want to be in the new place and set up and to be able to comprehend how much money I won’t have from now on.
I mapquested it yesterday and (with no traffic or stoplights) I’m 13 minutes from work! And 28 minutes to downtown! That is so much better than I have it now (an hour or more to each).
With any luck, we’ll have the status certificate by Monday and will be abl to process things quickly. The only thing that sucks about the closing date is that my family is away for a hockey tournament, and I know my parents wouldn’t want to miss helping me get my first official real place ready… So we’ll see how it goes in terms of the dates, but I just want to move now! I hate the in betweenness.

I thought I’d look at what I was doing a year ago today, and well, I was studying for an exam. Much like what I should be doing now. Only instead of thinking I’ll fail this one, I think it’s highly likely…

I’m WAY more excited today — and actually right now about the condo than I have been up until now. I mean, it’s mine! My very own!! I can’t wait to set it all up and make it look all cute!

Clearly, now that I’m pretty much a homeowner, or condo owner, I’ll have to buy David Bach’s The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner to see what to do next 🙂

I, um, just bought a condo!
It’s a done deal — just conditional upon recieving the status certificate and the condo company not being evil as a result of its findings.
My closing date is March 16th!
