finally finished

I have been reading Anna Karenina for over three years. Well, kind of. I started reading it when I was working for the Evil Company. I only remember because it came up at my interview for another job – and that interview was just over three years ago.

I got through the first half of the book so quickly — the content was riveting and so well written. I was into reading about the affair, the society, the place of women at the time and how Anna seemed to be able to break the mold.

Then…once the affair was found out and she left her husband, there were about 200 pages there that just weren’t interesting to me to read.

I put the book down, and read a few more in its place.

Then recently, I became determined to finish it. To check it off of my list. The characters started to jump off the page again and the last 200 pages (save the last 20 or so) were again so capitvating that I wondered why I had put it down for so long.

I am happy that I finally finished it, and I do want to go on to read more Russian literature — War and Peace might be next up. After I get through a few, shorter, and more contemporary pieces that is.
