joan smith and the huxtables at c’est what last night

Aaron and I went to see a friend from Queen’s perform at C’est What last night. The opening set and Joan’s band were beyond fantastic. Joan has one of the most unique, powerful, and intense voices I have ever heard. The girl has got something and it’s worth checking out for sure. You can check out her website, The Joan Smith for upcoming shows and info. She and my friend Dave are also in a Led Zeppelin cover band, Red Zeppelin. They have a show in Toronto on July 22nd — definitely come out because these kids have a lot of talent. It makes me look at the morons on all of the idol and rockstar shows and realize how seriously pathetic they are, espeically when there are people right in front of me who have true talent. Dave and I also reconnected which was fun. The girl in the opening set could really sing too — though I can’t remember her name at the moment… and we missed out on buying the CD. Hope to see her again though.

When we got back to town, there were a whole bunch of sirens and flashing lights. We didn’t think anything of it until we got up to my place and could see a huge ball of orange fire in the distance. Aaron turned the truck around, tires squealing on a dirt road, and we took off to find the source of the fire. We even managed to find it — and think it was a barn. Hope that no one was hurt. By the time we returned back to my place the orange glow and subsided.
