soccer banned by King Edward?

Check out this site. I just found out that "In King Edward's reign of England (1307-1327), laws were passed that threatened imprisonment to anyone caught playing soccer. King Edward's proclamation said:" For as much as there is a great noise in the city caused by hustling over large balls, from which many evils may arise, which God forbid, we command and forbid on behalf of the King, on pain of imprisonment, such game to be used in the city future."

Good thing that one was overturned — imagine a world with no World Cup? Ha ha.

devil wears prada

I'm not totally sure if I'm allowed to talk about this, as the movie isn't out until June 30 — but we saw an advanced screening of The Devil Wears Prada and I really, really enjoyed it. I could empathize with the main character and thought that it was very well cast. I won't say too much though… just in case… But it did make me want to read the book.
