the little bro’s first soccer game that i could see

The little bro plays rep soccer and he's a fantastic defender (nicknamed "the wall" a few years ago). Last night was my first opportunity to see this year's team play and they really are a strong team.

They managed to tie it with a penalty kick and a free kick — which was pretty cool to watch and their goalie (a new one this year) was on the ball.

The ref, however, was a bit excessive. He gave out 4 yellow cards all to the other team and blew the play dead almost every minute or two. It was crazy. The parents were joking about him just not liking flow and wanting to be reffing for the World Cup right now. He even threw the coach of the other team out of the game when he complained and yelled about a call for off-side that wasn't off-side (and it actually wasn't). One kid was also kicked out after yellow card number 2. I'm just glad that this wasn't a team that Kevin had a grudge against or he likely would have been out of the game too. Good thing Hamilton isn't in our division any more. That was a rivlary from about 5 years ago that continues to play out on the field. The scary thing is that the Hamilton Serbs will now be playing the new Croatian team that has started — we had one croation kid on our team last year and they were brutal to him. The parents were awful too. I really couldn't believe what I was seeing, I mean this kid hasn't done anything wrong and is just trying to play a game. It's unfortunate. I hope that they have some sort of police presence or something there because it will definitely get out of hand.

I also realized that Kevin has now been playing soccer for 10 years. I can still picture the little cutie as a four year old tearing around the field in a clump, with no knees showing because his shorts and socks met. I really can't believe how far he's come and how skilled of a player he is. I hope I can see most of his games this summer.
